About Myself

My name is Stephen Herreros and I am the founder of ChessMinds. My chess journey began when I was 7 years old. I learned to play the game from my older brother but never really took an interest until I reached middle school. I was lucky to go to Rockway Middle one of the 1st middle schools to have chess as an elective. I took chess class as an easy way to get a good grade and my interest in chess took off from there. I also took lessons and was part of the Miami International Chess Academy run by International Master Blas Lugo. I did very well in Scholastic tournaments U1250 and even got 2nd Place in the Nationals individually and as a team. But after middle school I abandoned chess and it was not until I reached my 30s that I decided to come back to pursue my passion of chess and after some time ChessMinds was born. I have won a couple tournaments along the way and now I instruct school chess clubs, teach group/private lessons, host chess workshops and direct tournaments. My goal as a chess coach is to unlock the chess potential out of everyone of my students and for my students to have fun while doing so.

I hope that you join ChessMinds on your journey to chess enrichment.
